History of Belly Dance


Belly Dance is a Western word for an Egyptian dance form. In Egyptian Arabic, It is known as “Raqs Sharki” which means Oriental Dance. It is one of the most feminine dance styles in the world.

Belly Dancing focuses upon isolating different parts of the body, moving them independently in sensuous patterns, weaving together the entire feminine form. Belly Dancing gives the female body legitimization to be “round” in the contrast of modern western cultural preferences for flat stomachs. The belly dance is identified by swaying hips, undulating torso and articulated isolations employed in a range dynamic and emotional expressions.
